Another while at Bronycon 2012
I kept thinking this guy looked like Sebastien Tellier. Does anyone else see the resemblance?
Also he had awesome music and was pretty chill.
At BronyCon I got steveholtvstheuniverse to sign my copy of Space Jam.
Now there was someone who knew what a fire sale was about.
One of my bigger disappointments about BronyCon was that after the fire only one vendor had a fire sale. However they did not follow up with someone rolling on the floor singing “Amazing Grace.” Even Steve Holt didn’t think about it until I mentioned it to her.
Possibly one of the best moments at the con though was watching episodes outside on the large screen with a couple hundred other fans. Sitting on the ground helped with the happiness.
Well I eventually made it to BronyCon. Also I bought stuff. And did stuff. Right now the hotel Internet sucks. Should have stuff up in a day or two. Maybe three.
My icon on here is way out of date. So here’s a picture from yesterday. For the two or three of you guys going to BronyCon that follow me this is what I’ll be like. So come chat with me and we can be horrible at socializing.
Edit: I may be wearing glasses too.
The My Little Pony fandom is much different from a year ago. At AnthroCon 2011 there were only a couple dozen or so people expressing their membership in the fandom. BronyCon itself was rather small. This year however is a major turning point for the fandom.
This year is where it reaches a new level. We have legitimate famous people in the works coming out to a convention devoted to the source material. Most people on the Internet have heard about it by now. The fandom has also had its share of casualties along the way. Previous incarnations of BronyCon have apparently provoked controversies from those in charge.
This weekend’s BronyCon will help define where this fandom is going. It could be a peaceful time. It could be a time where a bunch of drunken furries riot the streets with giant Pinkie Pies.
In short I expect nothing less than what the students of Clone High have done.
I expect to see the bronies encounter a pool and flip that bitch.
I am most likely heading to it.
Which of my fellow Tumblr peeps do I get to meet up with and chill with and stuff?
Okay so last year I went to AnthroCon because I was in Pittsbrugh for the summer. I went with one of the other REU students because we were curious, bored, and I got some encouragement from people on here. There were also a lot less of you back then.
Anyway it turned out fun and I bought crap. However this year I am currently in Charleston and the convention is a bajillion miles away and this weekend. I have a couple ideas of how to get up there if I decided I wanted to:
- Ask a friend who might be willing to go (actually rather likely but work can be a problem)
- Ask a couple other friends who are slightly less willing to go (I have yet to ask anyone in Charleston at this point by the way)
- Plane is out of question due to cost
Then another issue is figuring out bed and stuff. Both on the way up and while there. I could potentially look for rides on something like Reddit, which would also include planned hotels and stuff. I have a friend who has been at CMU for a few years and I might be able to convince him to let me sleep at his place during the day.
One other thing is the possibility of BronyCon, which is in one of the neighboring states of Pennsylvania. The problem is that it’s the other side of the giant state and two weeks later. If I go up with the more likely friend then there would not be a hope for said friend to stay up due to work. Also the thing that kind of held me back from going to BronyCon (besides the fandom) was that I have like $900 or $1000 this summer, and I need to keep like $700 of it around for when I get housing this fall.
So I was thinking of maybe trying to get work for those two weeks and then get over to New Jersey. However I have no idea about getting an actual job. The way I got money these last two summers was to apply to research programs in like February. I could potentially show up to my one from last year and beg to do some research for a couple weeks. If that doesn’t work out I have no idea what there even is available these days. I assume people are always looking for manual labor. I might be able to bug some people to be nice enough to share a place with me for that time.
Or maybe some of my followers live up there and would be willing to house me for that time *WINK* *WINK* *NUDGE* *NUDGE*.
Also still unsure if I’ll actually try this.
